Colleyville Public Library Expansion Project - Week 16

This week, exciting visual changes occurred daily on the Colleyville Public Library second floor expansion project. All hands were on deck, as workers of many trades worked relentlessly to finish their tasks for the completion date just a few days away.  On the second floor, millwork installation continued in the kitchenette, the craft room, and the staff work area.  Millwork display shelving was delivered and positioned in place. In the story time room, the puppet stage was built, and by the end of the week, most of the millwork installation was complete. Painters continued to stain millwork, and applied the final coats of paint.  Drywall workers completed sheetrock work.  At the end of the week, ceiling tile was placed in the grid, and flooring installation was started.

On the first floor, workers completed sheetrock installation in the new stairwell and teen area, and painters completed the process of taping, bedding, and texturing the sheetrock in preparation for painting.  At end of the week, workers began painting the teen area walls. Additionally, on the first floor, workers continued to prepare the area for the installation of the new automated check-in system in the drive-thru return area, which was not completed this week due to a delay in getting an exterior insulation and finishing system (EIFS) color to match the existing color.   A temporary materials return is in place to accommodate drive-thru traffic until the new system has been installed, which is currently scheduled for next week. Currently, work on the project is on target and is scheduled for completion the end of April 2011.   When the construction phase is completed, the shelving installation and moving phases will begin and are scheduled to be completed before the end of May.

Colleyville Public Library Expansion Project -Week 15

This week a variety of activities pushed the Colleyville Public Library second floor expansion project around the bend into full view of the finish line. This brought a heighted level of energy to the Library, as workers of all trades started driving full force to the project end line. On the second floor, the most exciting visual change was the start of the millwork installation, which brought touches of a finished look to the area. In the story time room, bench seating was installed, and in the kitchenette, cabinets were attached to walls. In the craft and staff work rooms, window and door frames were installed, and doors were fit to the frames. Also, painters began the process of staining the millwork. Drywall workers focused on patching and repairing sheetrock above the ceiling in preparation for above ceiling inspections. Additionally, appliances for the kitchenette were delivered, and workers continued to install audiovisual conduit in the walls.

On the first floor, workers focused on completing sheetrock installation in the new stairwell and teen area. By the end of the week, their work was completed, and painters moved in and began the process of tape and bedding the sheetrock in preparation for painting. Additionally, on the first floor, workers began to prepare the area for the installation of the new automated check-in system in the drive-thru return area. The work included removing two existing material returns, and cutting a larger hole in the exterior wall to make room for the new automated return system. Additionally, a temporary material return was put in place to accommodate drive-thru traffic until the new system has been installed, which is currently scheduled for next week. Currently, work on the project is on target and is scheduled for completion the end of April 2011.

Colleyville Public Library Expansion Project -Week 14

Significant progress moved the Colleyville Public Library second floor expansion project closer to the target this week.  With the completion date drawing near, the construction areas continued to be energized with workers of many trades.  On the second floor, most of the work continued to be focused above the ceiling.  Fire sprinkler workers completed the fire sprinkler head reconfiguration work, and passed the fire marshal inspection.  Heating and air conditioning workers continued with duct work; and electricians placed new electrical light fixtures in a pattern amidst previously installed reused light fixtures. Also, workers finished installing drywall around the meeting room moveable wall track support enclosure.  Early in the week the moveable wall partitions were delivered. At the end of the week, the partitions were installed on the track and placed in the wall storage pocket.  The moveable wall consists of twelve partitions and is now operable.   On the exterior balcony, workers completed masonry work where a door was removed and relocated.  Also, painters applied a second coat of paint to the colored walls, and audiovisual conduit was installed in the walls.   On the first floor, electricians continued with wall rough in work, and plumbers started rough in work for the new coffee bar.   In the new stairwell area, workers completed sheetrock installation. The new stairwell area is now completely enclosed. Currently, work on the project is on target and is scheduled for completion the end of April 2011.

Colleyville Public Library Expansion Project -Week 13

Progress continued on the Colleyville Public Library second floor expansion project this week.  The construction areas were crowded with workers of many trades pushing on to the finish line.  On the second floor, most of the work was not as visible, as it was focused above the ceiling.  Fire sprinkler workers adjusted fire sprinkler heads; heating and air conditioning workers continued with duct work; and electricians ran electrical whips for the new light fixtures. Also, masonry work was accomplished, as masons began filling in the area on the exterior balcony where a door was removed in the new story time area.  The main focus of work this week was on the first floor in the new teen and stairwell area.  Steel workers began the challenging task of making hand rails for the new stairwell.   Heating and air conditioning workers continued with duct work, and drywall workers began sheetrock installation.  Additionally, workers continued to run data and phone cabling on both floors. Currently, work on the project is on target and is scheduled for completion the end of April 2011.
